Why is parking spots a nightmare for flat owners in Mumbai?

With the decision to buy flats in Mumbai, one cannot ignore the commute within the city. You know you are in Mumbai when Google Maps would give you an estimated travel time longer to reach by car than walking the distance!

Today’s roads are so severely congested that even desperate measures might only improve the condition. A solution proposed by the city authorities is a very steep parking fee, high enough to potentially dissuade people from taking their cars and bikes to work and encourage using public transport. This would only mean that one needs to park their vehicles at their home.

In many residential localities of the city, the glut of cars has further added problems. Since most homes in central and south Mumbai have old residential complexes that don’t have a garage, the vehicles parked outside in the leafy by-lanes eat into the road space. Multiple cars in the same house have only worsened the scene. One often comes across slow-moving car drivers endlessly searching for a parking lot, motorcyclists carving out a wedge to squeeze their bikes in, haphazardly parked school vans adding the woes.

With the rise in need for space, the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC) has directed the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to make provision of car parking in the residential complexes to ensure safety and avoid obstruction on roads. If you plan to buy premium or luxury flats in Mumbai, you need a car parking facility within the premise and 24 x 7 security to ensure the safety of your vehicle.

To meet the home buyers’ demand, most residential projects in Worli, Prabhadevi, and Dadar have designated car parking facilities within the complex. Some luxury projects like Vraj Tiara, Worli, have 8 level ramp car parking with electric charging points for hybrid cars. The premise is also secured with 24×7 security with CCTV to ensure the safety of your vehicle at all times. The car parking space can accommodate up to 10 cars per level. While most home buyers are only concerned with their present needs, ignoring the future requirements for parking becomes unmanageable and burns a hole in your pocket when the need arises.

Thus, in conclusion, while booking a flat in Mumbai, it is vital to decide if you need to book the parking space based on your present needs or take into consideration the future needs to avoid parking woes in the city.
